(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2024 killing of a woman at a Pueblo tavern, as well as attempted murder for the shooting of another woman during the same incident.
According to the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s (DA) Office, David Martinez was found guilty in a second jury trial following a mistrial in July.
According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), Martinez was arrested on Aug. 8, 2024 on a warrant for first degree murder in connection to a shooting at Veteran’s Tavern in the 300 block of E. Northern Ave. Officers originally responded around 9:30 p.m. on June 28, 2024 and found one woman at the tavern critically injured. Another woman was also found with non-life-threatening injuries.
The critically injured woman was taken to the hospital where she later died. Her death marked the 14th homicide in Pueblo in 2024.

Martinez’s first trial was declared a mistrial in July 2025, though the reason for the mistrial was not available. After another two-week jury trial that wrapped up on Thursday, Oct. 9, Martinez was found guilty of one count of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Pursuant to Colorado law, first degree murder carries a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Martinez is being held without bond pending his sentencing hearing on Dec. 29.
