(COLORADO SPRINGS) — First responders in El Paso County gathered to honor the memory of Deputy Andrew Peery, who was killed in the line of duty three years ago, by participating in a memorial workout.
The annual event, held at Results Fitness Rx, involves a challenging workout designed to commemorate Peery’s callsign, ‘Zebra Eight.’ Participants perform eight repetitions of various exercises, symbolizing this callsign.
“He was a really good guy and very well loved,” said Nathan Ackley, owner of Results Fitness Rx.
Morgan Bufmack, a Colorado Springs Police Officer, recalled, “I was working the night that it happened, so it kind of it touched home.”
The memorial workout includes exercises such as wall walkers, tire flips, pull-ups, bench presses, deadlifts, Kalari rows, kettlebell swings, and box jumps, all performed in sets of eight.
Ackley explained the significance of the workout, noting, “It’s intense, but it’s for a good cause.”
Bufmack described the workout as demanding, saying, “Halfway I was like, ‘oh gosh, I don’t know how much more I can do out of this.'”

The event not only honors Deputy Peery but also serves as a reminder of the fragility of life. “Hopefully everybody comes in here with that same mindset,” Bufmack said, emphasizing the importance of appreciating life.
Ackley expressed the ongoing commitment to the tradition, stating, “It’s been great to be able to memorialize and remember him.”
The memorial workout at Results Fitness Rx continues to be a meaningful tribute to Deputy Andrew Peery, bringing together first responders and community members to honor his legacy.
