(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs was among two locations in Colorado that broke daily high temperature records on Friday, Aug. 8.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, both Colorado Springs and Alamosa broke decades-old records on Friday.
In Colorado Springs, the previous record high for Aug. 8 was recorded in 1969 at 96 degrees. The NWS said Colorado Springs reached 97 degrees at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, breaking the record that stood for over 50 years.
Alamosa hit 91 degrees at 4:20 p.m., breaking the previous record of 88 degrees set in 1962 (which was matched on this day in 2000 in Alamosa).
Heat Advisories were issued for El Paso, eastern Fremont, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, and Prowers Counties on Thursday in anticipation of the hot temperatures, and those advisories remain in effect until 8 p.m.
