(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two more staff members of New Life Church have been asked to resign, after it was revealed that they had knowledge of dishonesty by Senior Pastor Brady Boyd in regard to the molestation of a 12-year-old girl by another pastor in Texas.
According to a memo sent to the congregation by the church, staff members Brian Newberg and Lance Coles served on a search committee in 2007 that eventually oversaw the appointment of Boyd as Senior Pastor. The two are the only committee members who remain on staff at the church, New Life said.
The concerns stem from Boyd’s time at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. Church elders state that Boyd knew of allegations against the Senior Pastor of Gateway Church at the time, Robert Morris, involving the molestation of a girl that began in 1982 when the girl was 12 years old.
Boyd went on to be appointed Senior Pastor at New Life, after being recommended by the search committee that included Coles and Newberg. At the time, Boyd insisted he had not known about Morris’ actions when he worked under him at Gateway.
Boyd eventually invited Morris to be an overseer and preach at New Life, and in 2024 when Boyd was approached by church elders on the matter, he insisted he would not have invited Morris had he known. It was later revealed through extensive emails that Boyd in fact did know, and was dishonest about his knowledge, both to church elders and the congregation.
The memo sent to New Life congregants now reveals that Coles and Newberg raised concerns about Morris becoming involved with New Life, but when Boyd dismissed those concerns, they were not brought to the Board of Elders. Church leaders said the two had a responsibility to report their concerns, and due to the fact that they did not, both were also recently asked to resign.
New Life Church said there are currently no other pastors or elders currently serving at New Life who were aware of the incident involving Morris and the 12-year-old girl in Texas.
