(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) confirmed a deputy was involved in an alleged DUI crash on Sunday, Aug. 3.
According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), on Aug. 3 at around 9 p.m., troopers responded to Highway 24 near Divide on a report of property damage involving a Ford Ranger and a Chevrolet Silverado.
CSP’s investigation determined that the driver of the Silverado was traveling south on Highway 24 and stopped at a construction zone traffic control flagger stop sign that was facing southwest. According to CSP, the Ford Ranger traveling south on Highway 24 behind the Silverado, failed to stop and hit the rear of the Silverado.
Medical personnel checked the occupants of both vehicles, and no injuries were reported. CSP said the Ford Ranger was driven by 25-year-old Chase Mikesell, who is facing the following charges:
- Drove a Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs or Both
- Drove a Vehicle with Excessive Alcohol Content
- Careless Driving
- Possession of a Weapon While Under the Influence of Intoxicated Liquor
TCSO released a statement related to this incident and confirmed Chase Mikesell is a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office.
We are aware of the charges alleged against Deputy Mikesell and it is in the initial stage of the court process. We have not received documentation supporting the allegations and he is entitled to due process, the same as anyone else. We are administratively tracking this; he is not under disciplinary process. We will treat this the same as we would for any other employee. We do not have a policy regarding the hiring of relatives. We don’t have photos to disseminate to the public; we do have them for internal agency use only. This was off duty alleged conduct.
Commander Kevin Tedesco
Deputy Mikesell shares the same last name as Sheriff Jason Mikesell; however, FOX21 News so far has been unable to confirm if they are related.
