(COLORADO SPRINGS) — More than 120 horses trotted through downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday, July 5, turning the streets into a full-blown western roundup for the 82nd Pikes Peak or Bust parade.
This beloved event is the official kickoff to the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, a Colorado Springs tradition since 1937.
The festivities kicked off with the crowd-favorite, Lil’ Cowpokes stick horse races. More than 4,000 people showed up to cheer on the 55 floats in the parade, with this year’s theme being “Glitter and gold.”
Those who attended may have spotted some familiar faces as the Fox21 Storm Squatch and members of our team walked in the parade with morning news anchor Craig Coffee emceeing the event.
Kim Costello said she’s been coming to the parade since 1959 and is excited to get her family involved this year. “It’s an amazing tradition and we are very thankful to have been involved with the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade for all of those years and the City of Colorado Springs and all that it means to us.”
The event was proudly dedicated to the memory of Nick Remmel, a legend of the local parade scene who wrangled events across Colorado Springs for more than 60 years.
