(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Food trucks from around the Pikes Peak region descended on downtown Colorado Springs on Sunday, June 1 to prove they could put together the best grub in southern Colorado.
Out of the many food choices, it can be hard to go wrong with cheesesteaks. Matt Spain, the owner of Mateo’s Catering and Personal Chef, has been working on perfecting his own cheesesteaks for the last 15 years and shared his green chili cheesesteak with people downtown on Sunday.

He’s been at the last two Battle of the Food Trucks and enjoys seeing all the local food trucks come together.
“We don’t always get to see each other for a long time,” Spain said.
But for those who aren’t the biggest fans of cheesesteaks, there were other creative options, like ‘Bad Buns,’ which look like a taco but feature a whole different punch of flavor.

“A little bit of a crunch from the fresh veggies that are pickled and a little bit of tanginess from this chili mayo and all together,” said Caleb Amador, a chef for Bowl In The City Colorado.
From grilled cheese to street tacos and even bratwurst nuggets, you can find it at the Battle of the Food Trucks. Visitors even got a chance to visit with some of the FOX21 News crew like Evening Anchor Scott Kilbury and Loving Living Local Host Justin Antweil.
Antweil was a celebrity judge for this year’s competition and certainly enjoyed his share of food.
“Let’s just say I started with a 34-inch waist at the beginning of the morning, and now I’m a 36-inch waist,” Antweil joked.

But it is all for a good cause, with portions from sales made at the competition directly benefiting Angels of America’s Fallen, a nonprofit organization that supports children of fallen military service members, firefighters and law enforcement officers.
“There’s really something for everybody,” Antweil said.
