(COLORADO SPRINGS) — In a neighborhood near Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs, you will find folks who are tossing trash bags into a large dumpster to help spruce up their neighborhood over the weekend.
While the city hosted its community clean-up day on a stretch along Highway 24 in Old Colorado City on Sat. May 31, some folks at the Victoria Village along Queen Anne Way decided to focus on cleaning their own neighborhood, which is what Max Bernard decided to do.

“I think it’s really great to see the community clean because I think it’s important to take care of where we live and to not let it get too messy and downtrodden,” Bernard said.
That’s because, through the city’s code enforcement, people who want to spruce up their area can do so through the neighborhood cleanup program. Signing up is as simple as people can go to the city’s website and fill out a form explaining why their neighborhood needs attention.
There is no cost for setting this up, as the organizer will be responsible for bringing people out to help. The city will pick up the dumpster after the cleanup is complete and all the trash is inside. It especially helps if you just happened to miss your spring cleaning this year.

“I try to keep my little section of the neighborhood pretty clean, but sometimes it gets a little messy, especially when you have to deal with all of the weeds that fall during the fall season and all winter,” Bernard said.
Along with improving the appearance of the city, one trash bag at a time, it’s another great opportunity to connect with neighbors and people within your neighborhood.
“I think that this is a great opportunity for other neighborhoods to get involved and help out their neighbors,” Bernard said.
