DENVER (KDVR) — The mayor of Denver says an announcement on a deal for the new Broncos stadium could be coming soon.
On a taping of “Colorado Point of View,” a weekly politics show from Colorado’s CW2 and FOX31, Mayor Mike Johnston says: “We’re working hard on a deal, and I think we’re close.”
Johnston would not confirm if the new location is the much-talked-about Burnham Yard property, in the La Alma/Lincoln Park Neighborhood, south of Colfax Avenue and east of Interstate 25.
A spokesperson for the long-time Buckhorn Exchange Restaurant, at 10th and Osage, says they have not received any correspondence from the team or the city about any possible deal.
On “Colorado Point of View,” Johnston says his game plan is for the stadium to be funded by the team.
Other, past, reported, possible locations have included the Elitch Gardens Theme Park, the city of Lone Tree, near Denver International Airport and the current stadium location, where the team has played since 2001.
The Broncos’ current stadium lease runs through 2031.
