(PENROSE, Colo.) — You’ve probably seen the massive rocking chair outside the Historic Apple Shed in Penrose. What you might not know is that the property, located along Highway 115, is up for sale.
Watch the video above for a look inside, and trip through it’s history.
With its rich history and versatile space, the Apple Shed offers potential buyers a unique opportunity to own a piece of Penrose’s heritage.
It spans 9.82 acres, with the Apple Shed itself being 8,660 square feet. The commercial space was first built in 1913, but has been updated to include over 2,000 square feet of living space.
From a cannery to a cafe to a mercantile, wedding venue, and more, the building has served many purposes over the years. The current owners say that when it sat empty, local schools would use it for things like basketball.
Sam Banning, who owns and is selling the property with his wife, expressed his desire to preserve the building’s historic value, stating, “A trucking company was going to come in and tear out the front of the building so they could back trucks up into here, and we just looked at that and said, ‘No, we can’t let that happen. This is a beautiful historic building.”
The sale includes many features such as the large rocking chair, a motion highway sign, a walk-in cooler, a commercial kitchen, cash registers, and much more. It’s currently listed at over a million dollars.
Banning mentioned that the property would make a great event center or could be used for various other purposes.
