SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – A former San Miguel County deputy wanted on a litany of sexual exploitation of a child charges has been arrested.
Jesus Damian Niebla was apprehended in the border town of Agua Prieta, Mexico, and was transferred to the U.S. Marshals at the border checkpoint near Douglas, Arizona. Nieblas fled to Mexico around July 10 after a search warrant of his home and car in Norwood by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Evidence recovered during the operation provided authorities with probable cause to arrest Nieblas, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office.
He is charged with:
- One count of sexual exploitation of a child
- 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a child
- 16 counts of sexual exploitation of a child
- 27 counts of failure to report child abuse or neglect
Nieblas is currently being held at the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee, Arizona, on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
The sheriff’s office stated it was made aware he was in custody on Sept. 29, and due to legal processes, the information was not authorized for release until Friday.
CBI is overseeing the case.
