(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) is celebrating a new scholarship created to support future educators in Colorado Springs.
The Uplift Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Xi Pi chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, is behind the $100,000 endowment. To be eligible, applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students completing their student teaching practicum, and to those who intend to teach in the Colorado Springs area after graduation.
“By creating this endowment, it’s there creating legacy, that will last past all of us. The funding will be here forever,” said Donna Nelson, CEO of PPSC Foundation. “We have started a teacher cadet academy that we are working with School District 11 on, so this will directly support that. And we’re addressing the teacher shortage that we have here in Colorado Springs.”
Since its founding, the Uplift Foundation has awarded more than $328,000 in scholarships to 124 students in the greater Colorado Springs area.
