(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A Pueblo County deputy is being commended for his keen eye after he noticed a temporary license plate that did not match the truck it was displayed on, which led to the people in the truck being arrested on drug charges.
According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), a deputy was on routine patrol when he spotted a 2001 Chevy 2500 parked at the Dollar General on Highway 50 East. The truck had a temporary license plate that did not match the truck, PCSO said.
The deputy contacted a woman, identified as 30-year-old Tamara Rodriguez, sitting in the passenger seat, and learned Rodriguez had two outstanding warrants. As deputies took Rodriguez into custody, a routine pat-down revealed she had approximately 8.5 grams of methamphetamine on her. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun in a backpack belonging to Rodriguez.
A man, identified as 55-year-old Richard Rigg, came out of the Dollar General and said the truck belonged to him, though he could not provide proof of ownership. Due to this, deputies decided to have the truck towed, and PCSO said they conducted a “preliminary inventory search,” finding a loaded handgun and two loaded magazines on the front seat, a M-4 style rifle, assorted body armor, and assorted tools. Deputies also located a lunch bag that contained several bags of methamphetamine, approximately 40 Fentanyl pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Jail for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, special offender, and the two outstanding warrants.
Rigg was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Jail for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, and special offender.

The investigation is ongoing, and PCSO said additional charges may be added pending the execution of a search warrant on the truck.
