(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An overnight burglary turned into a standoff with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) on Thursday, July 17, near Patty Jewett Golf Course.
According to CSPD, on Thursday at around 10 p.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of East La Salle Street near North Union Boulevard and Constitution Avenue to investigate a burglary. Officers’ investigation revealed that a man known to the victims and later identified as Louis Loyasa allegedly entered a home illegally through a basement door. Loyasa ran from the area after being confronted by the homeowner.
When police contacted Loyasa, he barricaded himself in a restroom inside his home, according to CSPD. Loyasa stayed in the bathroom for a “significant” amount of time, and he refused all attempts by officers to resolve the situation peacefully. Police used less lethal tools to subdue Loyasa and take him into custody.
Loyasa was taken to the hospital for minor injuries sustained during the incident. No officers were injured.
