UPDATE: TUESDAY 8/26/2025 2:10 p.m.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) held a press conference to inform the public about the fatal crash on Highway 24 on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
According to EPSO, they received a call at 8:10 a.m. about a crash involving three vehicles near the intersection of Hwy 24 and Blue Gill, near Judge Orr Road, in unincorporated El Paso County.
One of the people on the scene told EPSO that a passenger of a white pickup truck towing a black trailer was seriously injured but died despite help being attempted. The driver of the white truck left the scene, leaving their dead passenger.
EPSO deputies and Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Troopers determined the wounds were inconsistent with injuries typically seen in crashes, spurring a criminal investigation.
The EPSO is investigating the death, and CSP is handling the crash investigation.
Hwy 24 will remain closed from Judge Orr Rd to Woodmen Road for the next several hours for further investigation and cleanup.
EPSO requests anyone with information or video of the incident to call the non-emergency line: (719) 390-5555. “Detectives are also requesting related dash camera or Ring doorbell footage. Community members willing to share this information should contact the non-emergency line as well.”
