(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is investigating a deadly shooting that followed a call about a possible car theft on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
According to PPD, officers were responding to a possible car theft shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the 3000 block of West Northern Avenue, just south of the State Fairgrounds. Around the same time, dispatchers received a report of a fight involving weapons near the car theft scene.
The nearby officers reported that shots had been fired and responded to the parking lot of a nearby business where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The shooting victim was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
PPD said the incident is under investigation and appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community. Detectives are in contact with the alleged shooter, though the circumstances of the shooting are being investigated with no determination of charges as of Wednesday evening.
This marks the 10th homicide in Pueblo in 2025, PPD said. At the same time in 2024, there had been 15 homicides.
