(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As we approach the end of Oct., one significant change is on the horizon: Daylight Saving Time (DST) will officially end on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025 at 2:00 a.m. that morning, clocks will be set back one hour, marking the shift from DST to Standard Time. This means that, by next weekend, the sun will begin setting as early as 4:30 p.m. which is a notable difference from the later sunsets we’ve been enjoying throughout the summer and early Fall months. In fact, we will lose more than an hour in the evening time of daylight.
So what does this mean for weather? With the return to Standard Time, we can expect several weather-related changes as we head into the winter months:
- Lower Sun Angle: As the sun shifts its position in the sky, we’ll experience a lower sun angle, which often results in cooler afternoon temperatures. While afternoons may still feel relatively warm, the air will chill faster as the sun sets earlier.
- Cooler Nights: As daylight hours shorten, temperatures will also drop more quickly in the evenings, bringing cooler nights and cold mornings as we rise.
- Brighter Mornings: The silver lining for early risers is that sunrise will occur earlier in the morning. For those who enjoy starting the day with daylight, the change could be a pleasant adjustment.
While the shift to Standard Time may bring some challenges, such as the shorter days and the cooler nights, many people find the earlier sunsets to be peaceful and cozy. As we transition into the winter months, it’s a good time to take advantage of the quieter evenings, whether by enjoying indoor activities or resting earlier in the night.
