UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 8/27/2025 9:52 p.m.
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released the identity of the suspect who barricaded himself inside a Stratmoor home with two small children on Wednesday, as well as the serious allegations for which the man was wanted.
According to CSPD, on Saturday, Aug. 23, an investigation was launched into reports of a man with a gun who was representing himself as a federal agent. Investigators identified the suspect as 23-year-old Antonio Mellon and obtained an arrest warrant.
EPSO SWAT Team members and other law enforcement agencies were attempting to apprehend Mellon on that warrant Wednesday morning when he allegedly barricaded himself inside the home on Burnham Street with two small children inside. While barricaded in the home, CSPD said Mellon pointed a gun at officers multiple times, prompting the shelter-in-place.
Eventually, around 12:47 p.m., Mellon surrendered peacefully and the children were found unharmed.
“CSPD would like to thank our partners at EPSO for their assistance and professionalism, which ultimately led to a peaceful resolution for all parties involved,” CSPD said.
Mellon was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on charges of impersonating a police officer, possession of a firearm by a previous offender, two counts of child abuse, and four counts of first degree assault.

CSPD: Two children safe after being barricaded inside Colorado Springs home with suspect
Two children are safe after police said they were barricaded inside a home in the Stratmoor area with a suspect wanted on felony charges.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), law enforcement with CSPD and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) were in the area of Burnham Street, northeast of the South Academy Boulevard/I-25 interchange, to try and capture a suspect wanted on felony charges.
CSPD said once law enforcement was on scene, the suspect barricaded himself in the house with two young children. Shortly after 9 a.m., a shelter-in-place order was issued by EPSO.
CSPD said officers and deputies worked for hours to de-escalate the situation, and the suspect peacefully surrendered shortly after 12:45 p.m. The shelter-in-place order was then lifted around 1:20 p.m.
CSPD said the young children in the home were unharmed, and the investigation into this incident is ongoing. CSPD said it would release more information on the suspect and possible charges in this case at a later time.
