(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Atrevida Brewing Company in Colorado Springs is celebrating Dia de los Muertos early by hosting community events that include traditional meals, drinks, and cultural activities.
The brewery kicked off the celebrations this past weekend with a sold-out four-course meal and continued with a family event on Sunday, Oct. 26, featuring a screening of the movie ‘Coco’ to educate attendees about the holiday’s traditions and heritage.

“The marigolds are they smell very strong, which helps guide spirits to your altar and the butterflies represent spirit,” said Kassy Fierro, General Manager at Atrevida Beer Co.
Inside Atrevida Brewing Company, visitors are greeted with vibrant decorations including sugar skulls, marigold flowers, skeletons, and butterflies, each symbolizing aspects of the Dia de los Muertos traditions.
“We decided to make a disco because it really highlights how the holiday is not dreary or sad. It’s all about celebration and happiness and remembering and honoring those we’ve lost,” said Fierro.

The brewery has set up two altars where people can place the names or photos of their deceased loved ones, fostering a communal space for remembrance.
“We have all of the things you need for an altar, like all of the elements, and then we have some treats and, of course, some beer out for our loved ones,” said Fierro.
The celebration aims to bring the community together, allowing people to honor their loved ones in a shared setting.
“This is really just a big altar for anyone who comes in, who wants to honor whoever they pass and do it in a communal way,” said Fierro.
The brewery encourages people to slow down and reflect during the busy month of Oct., emphasizing the importance of family and remembrance.
The celebration will continue next weekend with ‘Disco de los Muertos,’ featuring the release of four new beers.
The brewery hosted a four-course meal as part of their early Dia de los Muertos celebrations.

Dia de los Muertos is traditionally celebrated in November, with the first day dedicated to honoring children who have passed and the second day focusing on adults.
“This year we did it a little early. We did it when we come early. So we could have all of our décor up and all of our beers from actual Day of the Dead,” said Fierro.
If you missed the events this weekend, you can still add a loved one to the community altar and enjoy one of the new beers.

Atrevida Brewing Company’s Dia de los Muertos celebration not only honors the traditional Mexican holiday but also strengthens community bonds by inviting people to remember and celebrate their loved ones together.
