(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Four people, four dogs, and four cats are displaced after a house fire that spread from the main floor to the attic on Tuesday, Aug. 19, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).

CSFD reported that around 2:30 on Tuesday, crews responded to a structure fire on the 2600 block of Hagerman Street, south of Old Colorado City, where they saw a column of smoke rising from a home.

According to CSFD, when firefighters entered the home, they encountered hoarder conditions, which can cause safety risks to crews, including blocked access, increased fire load, hidden hazards, and possible structural instability. CSFD reported that the fire quickly spread to the attic.

Crews worked to cut several ventilation holes in the roof to assist in getting access to the fire. Firefighters quickly began dousing the fire with water and had the main body of the fire knocked down within 10 minutes, according to CSFD.
According to CSFD, all people and pets made it outside the home before firefighters arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
