(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — It’s not every day you find someone who can so seamlessly resonate with an audience through a camera, someone so authentic on TV as he is in person, and someone who has surely left his mark on FOX21 News—someone our team will miss dearly, Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister, who’s getting ready to move on to his next adventure.
While this November will be Matt’s last month with FOX21, that doesn’t mean you won’t still see him around Southern Colorado. What’s on the horizon, you ask? Only bright days ahead.
Matt’s dedication to the Southern Colorado community goes well beyond what you see on screen. From emceeing events to talking with viewers at the grocery store, online, or behind the scenes, to announcing local games, his genuine nature shines through (even on the stormy days).

Matt’s career in television began in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he worked as the weekend meteorologist at KGWN-TV before moving to Colorado Springs in September of 2001. He worked at KRDO for several years, even becoming chief meteorologist, before joining Falcon School District 49 as director of communications in 2014.
A little over three years later, Matt would make his return to TV, joining FOX21 Morning News in December 2017 as the station’s chief meteorologist. A team (a family, really) he’s been alongside for nearly eight years now.

“It’s a bittersweet time for FOX21 Morning News and the organization overall. I have loved working with Matt throughout the years. Not only is he a wonderful and trusted colleague, but he is also a dear friend who I greatly respect. His approach to work and life is inspiring, making those around him better. So, while I am sad to see him move on, I am excited and supportive of his new venture outside of television news, continuing to serve the people of Southern Colorado, utilizing his talents and charm to inform and improve the lives of those from the peaks to the plains,” said Craig Coffey, FOX21 Morning News Anchor.

“Matt is more than just a colleague; he’s family. I will miss working with him daily, but I am so excited for him and the people of Southern Colorado who will continue to have access to his wealth of weather knowledge. It has been an honor to work with Matt. His influence has made me a better news anchor, coworker, and person over the last eight years,” said Abbie Burke, FOX21 Morning News Anchor.

“If the FOX21 Morning News team operates as a body, Matt is the soul. His friendly and inviting demeanor rings true not just on air, but off air. He’s the first to say ‘hello’ in the morning to everyone on staff. His dedication to keeping the communities safe during tough storm seasons cannot be beaten. I’m proud to have worked with Matt and look forward to what’s next,” said Julie Baker, Live and Local Morning Reporter.

As we prepare to say goodbye to Matt, be sure to tune into FOX21 Morning News all month long as we share highlights of his career and favorite moments with our team, as well as the FOX21 staff’s well-wishes to Matt in his future endeavours.
