(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Zoo has welcomed a second baby De Brazza’s monkey in two years, an occurrence that the Zoo said is especially rare but signals good things for the monkeys.
According to the Zoo, female De Brazza’s monkey Ruby recently became a mom for the second time in two years–something the zoo says is unusual because De Brazza’s monkeys typically have babies every two years. The Zoo said this is a good thing; however, because it signals to the Zoo that the family of De Brazza’s monkeys is happy and thriving in their environment.
Ruby had baby Delilah in March 2024, and the new baby in October 2025 makes Delilah a first-time big sister.
“Ruby is an attentive mother, often seen caressing the newborn as they sit in the grasses of their exhibit,” the Zoo said. “Diligent as always, Kanoa, the father, is watching over the growing troop, and Delilah remains curious about the world around her and this new addition to the family.”
The Zoo did not say whether the new little one is a boy or girl, but said guests can swing by the De Brazza’s exhibit on their next visit for a chance to spot the baby.
