(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Sanctuary Coffee, a new coffee shop in Colorado Springs, has opened with a mission to support the city’s only bird and fish sanctuary, Fins and Feathers.
The coffee shop located at 5046 North Academy Boulevard near North Union Boulevard aims to provide financial support to Fins and Feathers, a sanctuary that cares for and adopts owner-surrendered birds and fish. The sanctuary relies on donations and retail sales, as it does not receive state funding or grants.

“We just wanted to have another source to come and help us because a lot of sanctuaries from what we’ve seen, and we don’t know full details, they just don’t make it based off of adoption fees alone for birds,” said Roxanne Easom, Manager at Fins and Feathers.
“It’s really hard funding wise. We don’t have any state funding; we don’t have any grants. So, it’s from donations and it’s from retail that we do,” explained Easom.
Sanctuary Coffee serves a variety of drinks, including tea, Red Bull, coffee, and more. The drinks are creatively named after some of the birds at the sanctuary, such as a cold brew named “Lola,” hot chocolate called “Ellie,” and a chai named “Karma.”
The coffee shop is still in its early stages, having been open for about three months. “It’s only about three months in, so it’s still a baby. We’re still in our very baby stage. So, the word is getting out a little bit more, it’s really cool to see it growing,” said Easom.

Visitors to Sanctuary Coffee can also head across the street to see the more than one hundred birds and fish available for adoption at Fins and Feathers. “Some of these birds have been into three plus homes already, and that’s not even including us. So, we want to try to keep that a little narrowed,” said Easom.
Sanctuary Coffee offers a unique way for the community to support Fins and Feathers while enjoying ethically sourced drinks. As the shop continues to grow, it hopes to raise awareness and funds for the sanctuary’s mission.
