(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The 34-year-old Cañon City man accused of starting multiple fires in July was found incompetent to stand trial on Wednesday, Aug. 20, according to court documents.
Charles Fenstermacher faced five counts of arson, but now his trial will not move forward due to the incompetency ruling.
Fenstermacher was arrested after allegedly setting a fire outside the Cañon City Museum on July 15, and then another outside a local cafe hours later, according to the Cañon City Police Department.
Police said he was released from jail on bond the same day and went on to start a fire between the Maverick gas station and Hampton Inn on Latigo Lane north of Highway 50, which was endangering nearby buildings, but crews from the Cañon City Area Fire Protection District quickly got it knocked down.
