(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said it responded to over 200 calls on July 4 and 5, with 17 of those calls being fires and one of them resulting in the loss of a home.
According to CSFD, from the hours of 8 a.m. – 8 a.m. on July 4 and 5, firefighters responded to 238 calls for service, 17 of which were outside fires. Three of those fires were caused by fireworks, CSFD said.
Among the fires caused by fireworks was a house fire on Harrison Road on the south side of the city that left the home uninhabitable. Everyone inside the home was able to escape the fire, though the home was heavily damaged.

“It should NEVER come down to a family losing everything they have,” CSFD said in a post on social media. “Every one of the calls we responded to involving fireworks is one too many. Often, by the time we arrive, the people responsible are long gone.”
The Harrison Road structure fire is under investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department, due to the initial report stating someone had driven by the home and fired fireworks shortly after midnight on July 5. CSFD is asking anyone with information that may help investigators to contact the non-emergency line at (719) 444-7000.
