CPW confirmed that the wolf was part of the group of 15 that was brought to Colorado from British Columbia as part of reintroduction efforts.
“As a federally listed species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating,” CPW said in the release.
The agency said the investigation will include a necropsy to determine the cause of death, and no further information was immediately available.
A spokesperson for CPW confirmed to FOX31 that this marks the fourth death of a wolf that came from British Columbia this year, and three wolves that came from Oregon died last year.
