(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department’s (CSFD) Wildfire Mitigation Team met with local homeowners associations and held a neighborhood volunteer day to mitigate an area in the Golden Hills neighborhood.
Fire crews worked alongside volunteers to drag and pile brush, which was then ground down into smaller pieces and used as mulch.
“We also have a neighborhood chipping program, that if the homeowners want to do the mitigation work on their own property, they can do that,” said Michael White, Forestry Technician with CSFD. “We can come out and give them suggestions and advice. And then all that material that they can get, they can pile up on the road, and we have a chipping crew that comes through… for them, chip it up and remove from their property free of charge.”
CSFD conducts several wildfire mitigation projects across the city every year. They invite community members to do their part by joining the neighborhood mitigation program. To learn more, click on the link above.
