(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Platte Avenue has reopened after a nearly four-hour closure following a head-on crash on Thursday.
According to CSPD, officers originally responded just before 6 p.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a head-on crash in the area of Platte Avenue and Wooten Road. When officers arrived, they discovered that the two cars, a truck heading west and a sedan heading east, had collided head-on in the westbound lanes of Platte.
CSPD did not specify how the eastbound sedan ended up in the westbound lanes of Platte.
According to police, the driver of the sedan was unconscious when officers arrived and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital, and both reportedly suffered serious injuries. Both directions of Platte were closed for several hours for the crash investigation.
Platte fully reopened around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Platte shut down in both directions due to crash
CSFD said two people have been rescued from the crash and taken to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
Drivers are still asked to avoid the area of the crash as crews continue to work.

Platte Avenue is shut down in both directions west of Powers Boulevard due to a crash.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) posted about the crash shortly before 6:15 p.m. and said crews were working to free people from the wreckage and that all eastbound lanes are closed at Wooten Road.
The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) also posted about the crash and said westbound lanes are closed at Space Center Drive due to the same crash. Traffic is being diverted at Space Center and Wooten, and Platte is heavily congested.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
