The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said as of 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, the fire north of Buena Vista, called the Mountain View Fire, was around 60 acres, and two houses had been lost in the fire. 50 homes are within the evacuation zone.
According to CCSO, fire crews have made good initial progress on the fire with the help of aircraft. Fire crews from Chaffee County Fire Protection District, Salida Fire Department, Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and federal partners are assisting in fighting the fire.
As of 7:45 p.m. Thursday, CCSO does not believe the fire has entered public lands, and there is no concern about having to evacuate livestock in the area.

ORIGINAL STORY: Evacuations ordered for fire north of Buena Vista
(CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo.) — A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for a subdivision north of Buena Vista due to a wildfire.
According to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the Morrison Creek subdivision is under a mandatory evacuation order, and a pre-evacuation notice is in effect for the surrounding five miles.

The fire, named the Mountain View Fire, was initially reported as a structure and wildfire just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 in the area of Mountain View Estates. As of about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the fire has burned approximately 20 acres.
According to an alert on WatchDuty, the Sange de Cristo Electric Association has cut power to the Twin Lakes area, and locals can expect a lengthy outage. Neighbors who are without power and need assistance with oxygen can reach out to Cloud City Medical at cloudcitymedical.com or (719) 486-2950.

Evacuees with small animals can take their pets to Ark Valley Humane Society, 701 Gregg Dr., and large animals will be accepted at the Buena Vista Radio Grounds on County Road 321, CCSO said.
