(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A suspect has been charged in connection to a homicide investigation in northeastern El Paso County on Monday, Oct. 27.
27-year-old Khayla Dawson is charged with first degree murder, aggravated robbery, and motor vehicle theft. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident and said there is no known threat to the community, as investigators believe this was an isolated incident and all involved parties have been accounted for.

UPDATE: Missing person call leads deputies to body, homicide investigation underway
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) held a media briefing regarding an active investigation into a deceased person found near the Woodlake Trailhead.
According to EPSO Sergeant Kurt Smith, the sheriff’s office received a report on a missing person around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 27. After this, deputies were able to use cellular data location information from the missing person’s family. This information led them to Spectrum Loop, just off of I-25, where police found the person’s vehicle.
Sgt. Smith explained that there was enough evidence to lead EPSO to believe that a crime had occurred around the vehicle.
After this, EPSO came into contact with someone with information on the incident and missing person. This information, combined with assistance from the Colorado State Patrol’s Air Unit, prompted deputies to respond to the area of the intersection of Eastonville and Hodgen Roads, near the Woodlake Trailhead in northeastern El Paso County.
Deputies and the Metro Crime Lab found the body of the missing person, confirmed to be a man. The EPSO will not release the identity of this person until it is confirmed by the El Paso County Coroner.
Sgt. Smith says that EPSO is confident they have found all people involved with this incident, and are investigating this as a homicide. The sheriff’s office requests anyone with information about the event to call EPSO’s tip line at (719) 520-7777.
