(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Friday, Oct. 10 is World Homeless Day, and to raise awareness and support for people experiencing homelessness, Springs Rescue Mission President and CEO Travis Williams began sitting on a park bench for 24 hours starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The event, called Conversations on a Bench, is being livestreamed on Springs Rescue Mission’s website. Williams is scheduled to speak with Mayor Yemi Mobolade, Former Mayor John Suthers, City Council President Lynette Crow-Iverson, and other local voices.
“I think both Mayor Yemi and I really come from a place that we know that we’re designed for relationship. And so, connection, community, connectivity are so important,” said Williams. “We would hate for anybody to feel isolated and alone.”
Williams hopes the event will spark dialogue, raise awareness, and raise $24,000 in those 24 hours, which will support year-round services for people experiencing homelessness in the Pikes Peak region.
