(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Salute to American Veterans Rally and Festival is celebrating its 33rd year in Cripple Creek on Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16, and will include the 38th Annual POW-MIA Recognition Ride, as well as an appearance of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall.
In addition to the memorial wall and ride, the rally includes plenty to see and do, including vendors, a silent auction, keynote speakers, a beer garden, live music, a community street dance, and a veteran’s parade.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall will appear at Cripple Creek High School from Wednesday, Aug. 13, through Sunday, Aug. 17. The wall is a solemn exhibit etched with the names of fallen soldiers, honoring the sacrifice they made. Veteran and civilian visitors are encouraged to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the soldiers and their families at the wall.
The POW-MIA Recognition Ride will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16, when thousands of veterans and patriots from across the country will come together to ride on the POW-MIA Memorial Highway from Woodland Park to Cripple Creek. The yearly event started in 1987 and is Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles, and honors American service members who were prisoners of war, missing in action, or killed in action.
Registration for the ride takes place on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and costs $10 per person. Only two and three-wheel legal motorcycles with a length of 10 feet or less are permitted. Registration is on-site and cash only. The ride will depart at 10 a.m. from Woodland Park High School and will arrive at Cripple Creek around 11 a.m.
