(SALIDA, Colo.) — The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Chaffee County Public Health have confirmed a case of measles from a person who is out of state but visited a business in Salida late last month.
According to public health officials, the location and date of potential exposure were confirmed at Monarch Mountain at the Crest Gift Shop in Salida on July 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
CDPHE wrote that anyone who was at the location during that timeframe may have been exposed to measles and should monitor themselves for symptoms for 21 days and consider avoiding public gatherings or high-risk settings.
Symptoms of the measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a “characteristic rash that usually starts several days later on the face and spreads.”
For more information on symptoms, transmission, and vaccine recommendations, go to the CDPHE measles webpage. CDPHE has also released 2025 Colorado measles case information and a current list of exposure locations.
An official statement from the CDPHE read: “People exposed to measles typically develop symptoms 7 to 21 days after exposure. If you were at any of these locations during the exposure window and develop symptoms, immediately contact your health care provider by phone. If you do not have a provider, call an urgent care center or emergency department and explain that you may have been exposed to measles.”
