(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The In Their Honor Veterans Day Parade took place on Saturday, Nov. 8, with hundreds lining the streets of Downtown Colorado Springs to celebrate the service of veterans and active duty military.
The parade kicked off at 11 a.m. at Tejon Street and St. Vrain Street and headed down Tejon to Vermijo Street, passing hundreds of community members waving flags and showing their support for those who serve.
Due to the government shutdown, military branches did not participate, but active duty military members were able to march in the parade out of uniform. Even without the military representation, the parade had plenty of participation from veterans groups, school marching bands, law enforcement, local Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) members, city services, and businesses that support the military.
Crew from FOX21 News were there to show support. FOX21 News Morning Anchor Craig Coffey emcee’d the event, and FOX21 News Evening Anchor Rachel Saurer, Morning News Anchor Abbie Burke, Digital Producer Brett Yager, and Storm Team Meteorologist Nic Temple accompanied the Storm Squatch, waving to the crowd and handing out stickers.
