(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Inside Dart Bags, kids in Colorado Springs took some time to partake in a new local cornhole tournament. Dart Bags hosts various events along with cornhole and dart tournaments during the week, owner Clint Jordan had a thought to add another competition to the schedule.
“Literally last weekend, I told the wife and Troy, the General Manager, we got to start something different down here on Sunday,” Jordan said.
Jordan tells FOX21 that the idea led to the creation of the inaugural tournament on Sunday, which saw more than 20 kids learn and play corn hole on their day off from school. Carter Whitlock was one of those people who attended because he enjoys playing cornhole. He tells FOX21 News he started playing eight months ago but was not a fan at first.
“I was very frustrated because I wasn’t very good,” Whitlock said.
Whitmore says he’s perfected his toss by playing competitively against adults. At Sunday’s, May 4th, tournament, he showed kids his age how to play.

“I think it’s awesome because you don’t see a lot of kids playing cornhole,” Whitlock said.
Zelie Vigil also enjoyed playing cornhole and loved to sink the bag into the hole of the board.
“I just like throwing, when you get it in the hole, it just feels good,” Vigil said.
The tournament is possible because of some extra space Jordan started to utilize eight months ago. Dart Bags hosts adult league cornhole on Friday nights and wanted to continue to engage and grow within the community by setting up a time for the kids to play.
“It’s all about community, that’s literally what this is all about,” Jordan said. “Everything we do is trying to better and bring more things to the community.”
It costs $10 per entry to participate in the tournament, in which the kids compete to win a cash prize along with other goodies from Dart Bags. The kids hope the tournament continues to catch on and that more kids show up in the weeks to come.
“I hope it gets really popular and people all over the state come and play,” Whitlock said.
Jordan also hopes to see the event gain steam as time goes along while also connecting with schools to help bring kids to his local cornhole spot.
“The goal is we’re going to get it into the schools and let the kids, and the school systems know that we have this here,” Jordan said.
Dart Bags is located at 716 Arrawanna Street in Colorado Springs. The kids cornhole tournament is set to be held each Sunday from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M.
