(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Downtown Colorado Springs at the end of July.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers originally responded shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 to a single motorcycle crash at the intersection of North Weber and East Bijou Streets. The crash investigation revealed a motorcycle was making a left turn from westbound Platte Avenue to head south on Weber, and after completing the turn, the motorcyclist lost control.
The motorcycle tipped over after losing control, and both the motorcyclist and his passenger were thrown. Neither were wearing helmets, CSPD said.
Both the motorcyclist and his passenger were taken to the hospital. The motorcyclist was in critical condition, and the passenger was listed as stable.
On July 28, CSPD said it was notified that the motorcyclist had died of his injuries. The motorcyclist has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner as 60-year-old Richard Mondragon.
This is the 32nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2025, matching the number of fatalities at this time in 2024.
