(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — A man convicted of sexual assault on a child in Manitou Springs has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Manitou Springs, James Walter was sentenced in El Paso County District Court to 30 years to life in the Colorado Department of Corrections, with an additional 20 years to life parole.
In March, Walter was found guilty of multiple charges, including numerous counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, sexual assault – submission by force, and aggravated incest.

“This sentencing marks the conclusion of a thorough and dedicated investigation by the Manitou Springs Police Department,” the City’s spokesperson said. “Over the course of two years, investigators worked tirelessly to ensure that justice was pursued with persistence and professionalism. The department’s efforts, in close collaboration with prosecuting attorneys and support services, were critical in bringing this case to trial and securing a conviction.”
Walter’s estimated eligibility date for parole is January 2059. He has remained in custody since his conviction in March.
