(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — According to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), as of mid-May, kitten season has arrived, and foster homes are urgently needed to offer round-the-clock care to neonatal and special needs pets during the influx.
HSPPR stated that during kitten season, neonatal kittens, bottle babies, and abandoned litters who can’t survive on their own keep arriving at their doorstep, often multiple litters per day. The kittens are often in immediate and constant need of attention, and each new arrival constitutes an emergency that stretches the shelter’s resources thin.
HSPPR said there are not currently enough foster homes to shelter, and is asking for volunteers to become their lifeline. Fostering requires people who can remain calm in chaos and have the ability to give round-the-clock care to babies who need bottle feeding, or to animals who are shy and fearful and need patience, or sick or injured and need a quiet place to rest and heal.

Not sure what fostering entails, but still curious about what it involves?
Sign up for HSPPR’s Kitten Shower in the link above. This event takes place on Saturday, May 31, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and allows those interested to meet the foster care team and learn about caring for bottle babies and other animals in need. It’s a chance to ask questions, connect with others, and see how rewarding fostering can be.
