(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As police officers were attempting to arrest a suspect for assault on a family member, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the suspect resisted arrest and punched an officer in the face on Saturday morning, Oct. 4.
According to CSPD, around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of an in-progress family disturbance in the 4900 block of Mark Dabling Boulevard, near Austin Bluffs Parkway, and when they arrived, they found the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Chaz Kimble, walking away from the home.
CSPD reported that Kimble did not cooperate with the officers’ instructions and began to fight back when being detained. During the fight, an officer was punched in the face, prompting the police to use a taser on Kimble, which was not effective. Finally, when additional officers arrived, he was successfully taken into custody.
As police were investigating, they learned that Kimble had allegedly strangled a family member and was attempting to escape the scene as officers tried to stop him. Kimble was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and obstruction of a peace officer and was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. The injured officer was treated at the hospital and released.
