(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is asking the community for information on a suspected arson in the Downtown area on Thursday, Oct. 23.
According to CSPD, fire crews with the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday to a structure fire in the 700 block of North Tejon Street, just south of Colorado College. By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had been extinguished; however, after the CSFD Fire Investigation Unit’s initial investigation, the Regional Explosive Unit was contacted to respond.
CSPD explained that the Fire Investigation Unit conducts preliminary origin and cause investigation to all suspicious fires. The Regional Explosives Unit is the investigative agency for criminal fires for the Colorado Springs Police Department.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect intentionally set the fire causing several thousand dollars’ worth of damage,” CSPD said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact CSPD at (719) 444-7000. To remain anonymous, contact the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP.
