(COLORADO SPRINGS) —On Wednesday, June 25, the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) welcomed the newest class of Basic Cadets.
These new students came with high hopes and dreams.
“First foremost, I just love to be able to have the opportunity to serve my country,” said Logan Sims, a Basic Cadet.
Many have big aspirations of becoming pilots, while others are excited to see what new doors are opened for them.
“I wouldn’t want to commit myself to anything before I’ve seen all of the career options right now,” said Gavin Lee, a new USAFA student.
The newest class said goodbye to their parents one last time before they checked in and took their oath to officially become a Basic Cadet. It was all cheers and tears up until this point of the morning, but once they take their oath, that’s when the tradition of yelling on the bus ride up began by the upper classman.
They then learned to stand at attention through the yelling before getting their hair cut and fitted for a uniform.
4th Degree student, Graham Blanton said the chaos is all worth it: “I think it’s a very important role to have for everyone in the country to commit to something greater than yourself, so I think it’s a great thing to do.”
